SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God Sits at the Conference Table)”

With all the events going on lately, it felt like time to go into my old songbooks and make a fresh version of this song, written by Eugene Record of The Chi-Lites.

Eugene wrote their evergreen hits “Have You Seen Her?” and “Oh Girl,” and his songs have been covered by Beyoncé, Blind Boys of Alabama, Hall & Oates, Paul Young and others. Eugene’s timeless composition “There Will Never Be Any Peace Until God Sits at the Conference Table” (also titled “...Until God is Seated…”) was written during the turbulent Vietnam War era. I was introduced to the song by my friend, British singer-songwriter Steve Lambert (of the band Roman Holliday). Steve insisted I listen to Nick Lowe’s intimate remake of Eugene’s spiritual song, which inspired me to add it to my set.
