SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “So Goes Love” by Davy Jones.
…As The Monkees conclude their final tour date at the Greek Theatre tonight, I offer this song written by Davy Jones. Inspired by renaissance and British folk, he wrote it for The Monkees in 1968. His lyrics are a reflection on his personal paradoxes as a man. Musically it would've worked well as a deep album cut, but because of a publishing glitch with Colgems the song was set aside. Fast forward 30 years and Davy asked me and cellist Linda Kanski to finally finish the song. Out of all the tracks he and I worked on, this was one of our favorites. My goal with this video is capture David playing his guitar and singing songs in various comfort zones--he was happy to be the chap quietly strumming in the corner. You'll also catch glimpses of Davy's Dad, Sally Field, Maurice Gibb, Linda Haines, Felipe Torres, a Charlie Chaplin lamp, and a Monkees in-joke involving a giraffe.
