SONG OF THE WEEK! “Air Raid”
...“Noir Reggae” is my musical description here. The somber and metaphorical lyrics were inspired by dreams I had after reading a play by British writer Charles Williams (one of The Inklings). The message: A common enemy shakes people out of their squabbles and unifies them for a righteous cause, but what if we didn’t have to wait for bombs to drop to get people together? Wouldn’t it be great if the bombs transformed into doves of the spirit?
My early demo of this was in a Rolling Stones "Some Girls" style, but then I took it into a Bowie-ish space-reggae direction. Guitarist Chris Bovard was slotted to play but couldn't make the session, so I did it, imagining Stevie Ray Vaughn doing surf guitar with a dose of ISLANDS-era Robert Fripp (I also played a nifty Farfisa organ).
