SATURDAY MUSIC VIDEO MATINEE: “Love Love Alone (live @ Ft. Mason, San Francisco 2018)”
—That was my 3rd gig in a row that day, and I can hear tinges of voice frazzle, but when you have a well-lit stage and energy, just do it! This song is a true story-song: In 1936 the future King of England abdicated the throne because he wanted to marry a “forbidden woman.” That would be King Edward and Ms. Wallis Simpson, better known as The Duke & Duchess of Windsor. The controversies of their lives are still a source of criticism and debate, but the point remains: A man chose love over power.
The song was a deep album cut by Harry Belafonte and it was presented to me by old friend and collaborator Dan Rielly (Funk Dub Division).
It graduated from demo to big studio production on my FIRE album.
During the FIRE sessions, the song caught the attention of Davy Jones (Monkees) for it’s airing of “controversial British history.” Davy cameo’d a vocal on my track and, months later, pitched the song to the cable TV series he was hosting then, MEET THE ROYALS.
He also played it live a few times. The song remains a staple of my live set and, in 2012, was profiled on NME.com (website of the British music magazine). For more back story click on:
