Hello—I’ve been entertaining in assisted living homes regularly for the past 5 years. The joy of music-making has a direct and positive effect on people in stages of dementia and disability. I’ve seen miraculous and uplifiting things happen in these care homes because of music, and the neuroscience around this phenomenon is growing. Initially I looked at it as a “day job” while I worked on my original music and related projects, but over time, the care home concerts took on a deeper meaning, almost like a ministry.
The pandemic wiped out virtually all of my care home concerts, and reopening the homes has been slow and uneven. The homes pay me, but I could use more financial support.
