SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “Love & Mercy”
Anyone who spends enough time around me will know that The Beach Boys are a formative part of my musical influences, and I’ve done many of their songs in my solo set. “Love & Mercy” is a Brian Wilson song that came to him as he was playing Burt Bacharach’s “What the World Needs Now” on a piano. In 1988 Brian released “Love & Mercy” as a single, and it has been covered several times since.
In 2004, Bono was discussing the Madrid train bombings in an interview and said, "'Love and Mercy' is one of the great songs ever written...I can't think of a greater song to be sung…because, in a way, they're the two feelings that those terrorists sought to destroy."
The 1988 BAM magazine (shown on the piano in this video) is a time capsule for events circling me at the time (for the full back story read my video captions). Thanks for watching and listening (feedback welcome). Love & Mercy to you, too! JJB
