HAPPY BIRTHDAY to GRAHAM GREENE + SATURDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “Unresolved (Graham Greene’s Script for Laurel & Hardy)”
—I’m a fan of the classic comedy of Laurel & Hardy. I’m also a fan of Graham Greene, the prolific British writer known for exploring the paradoxes of morality, politics, and spirituality. His characters became (reluctantly or surprisingly) “heroes” through ironic or redemptive acts. Greene’s story-endings weren’t always tidy and Hollywood-friendly even though many of his books became films. Yet one accepts his endings—because everything happens for a reason. My song “Unresolved” imagines Greene writing a film script for Laurel & Hardy, on a theme that parts of life are unresolved tragic-comedies. It's also a refraction on the hymn “Farther Along.”
One sunny afternoon I was rambling around on a guitar, improvising on “Yesterday” by Paul McCartney. Working out on those riffs led me to creating this song. Meanwhile, HB GG.
