SONG OF THE WEEK: “I’m So Glad U Let Me In.”
This loud and brash track has become a song of gratitude for me. Gratitude is an important part in my life; a “tool” to manage adversity and filter through problems. The lyrics are from a dream that re-winded me back to my first encounter with San Francisco, the City by the Bay. It felt like I was standing at a huge gate, seeking permission to enter The Great Oz Emerald City. Once inside I felt healed with fresh eyes, clearly seeing “water turned to wine” even in a fog-enshrouded city. In the end I felt gratitude to the city and the people in it for allowing me to be part of this amazing place
.
The title alludes to a song by Cream, but the chord structure was directly influenced by (now San Francisco resident) Iggy Pop’s “I Got A Right.”
The feedback-ish guitar parts (all slide in open E tuning) tributes the late, great John Cippolina of Quicksilver Messenger Service.
The track was made in a loft in San Francisco, then expertly remixed by Scott Francis. For drama I added a prelude with the Felix String Quartet (recorded in Moscow by my old pal Bil Bryant).
