The title cut is an American tango—a story about a man driving relentlessly at night, crossing sparse Western desert-scapes to get back to his sweetheart. One day I called Chris von Sneidern and said, “I want to record a new song that has a style like ‘Wicked Game’ by Chris Isaak.” Chris replied, “It just so happens the rhythm section of the Isaak record will be recording next week here at the studio.” A session was born. My friend and musical colleague Dan Reilly called the song “cinematic.” The rest of HTD is comprised of tracks that tied in with the “Dakota” theme—including a rare single edit of “Love Love Alone” w/the late Davy Jones (Monkees).
