A Tribute to one of America's Greatest Guitarists
"I am Fine With That" Remembering Chris Bovard
SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “I Am Fine With That”
This is a funky gospel song that I recorded with the late, great guitarist Chris Bovard (1955-2022). I recently made this video using random footage I found featuring him in various performances. Arguably, he was one of the greatest guitarists in America, on par with Stevie Ray Vaughan and other trail-blazers. Heritage Guitar company named a guitar after Chris after he’d toured extensively with assorted bands around the Pacific Rim, earning him notoriety as a blues-rock guitarist extraordinaire. He was a long-time resident of Hawaii and did cameos in “bar band” scenes for the MAGNUM P.I. TV show. On “I Am Fine With That” (from the 2007 Word2Soul Project) he cut a sizzling lead guitar in just a few takes. The music owes something to James Brown, Billy Preston, and Tower of Power. A critic wrote, “Bovard puts a roof on it all with stunning guitar parts. He is a master of dexterity, tone and soul!” God bless Chris and his family—see you at that great jam in the sky.
